Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his wife the late Patricia Bennett Smith; parents, Mr. William David and Channie Clay Profit Smith; sibling, Private First Class William Thomas Smith, Pamela A. Smith, Barbara A. Smith McBride, and an infant baby sister. He is survived by his son, Edward Lee Smith, Jr., his grandson Edward Lee Smith, III, siblings, Furman Smith, Elaine (Edward) Bryant, Jestine (Harold) Tucker, Maggie (Sinclair) Tucker, and Rosalyn Carson, a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and friends.
